Rain and waterfalls

Last Friday morning, I was woken by the sound of rain. It was still dark. (I found out later, when the rainstorm was the opener of nearly every conversation, that it had been around 5am.)

On my way to work nearly 2 hours later, the rain had stopped but had formed puddles all over the ground. The air was misty and raindrops clung to every little detail, making the world glisten and glitter in the sunlight. The moisture also elevated all kinds of smells — the rosemary bushes, gravel, crushed lemons that had fallen from trees. Those few minutes on my bike that morning were a little slice of heaven.

It still gets pretty hot during the day (the AC still gets turned on at work, despite it being mid October) but the heat is definitely loosening its grip. Just a week or so ago the only thing we could even consider doing during the day on the weekend was maybe go see a movie in an air-conditioned theater. But this past Saturday we felt the temperatures had dropped enough for our first hike post summer. We went to Ayun falls, located just south of the Israeli-Lebanese border. It was nice to be walking in nature again, and I’m looking forward to more hikes in the future.

Lovely pictures! It is very cool here now. We have had a lot of rain this fall. The current temperature is 65, and that is as warm as it has been in several days. We had beautiful cool days with plenty of sunshine the past 2 days. New England in the fall is beautiful! You should come see us sometime!
