8 June 2012 (Quarrel and mystery)

June 8, 2012

“I come to you crying and you tell me I deserve it.”

“You’re just not interesting to me anymore.”

These were some of the words in shouting form
that flew out of a neighbor’s window
and reached Yuval’s ears last night
when he stepped out for his last cigarette before bed.

We worry
for the future of this young couple.

When Yuval and I lived in Shimokitazawa (Tokyo),
our neighbors got in to a huge fight once.
Up until then we rarely heard a sound from them,
so the shouting shocked us awake in the middle of the night.
It was the sound of shattered glass that made me call the police.

When we talked to them a few months later,
we learned that they got married.
They wore matching bands that still looked brand new. They seemed happy.

Maybe it’s a make it or break it moment for our current neighbors.

Whether the arguing is in Hebrew or Japanese,
the effect it has on the ears they fall upon is universal.
It’s like being forced to watch a train wreck
while having our hands tied.
It makes us want to cover our ears and hide.

On the same night, many people all over Israel
apparently looked up at the sky in wonder and fear.
I learned from my co-workers this morning that
there was an unidentifiable light or object in the sky last night
that turned out to be a Russian missile test.
To think that for a few hours, some people believed they had actually seen a UFO.

Much love,
Kaori

    Sunshine,
This is Israel. Most people who saw the light were thinking this is a
long range missile attack, not a UFO.
And they were probably wondering who is dumb enough to do it🙂

This was my first thought too! Though it wasn’t prefaced with “Sunshine”🙂 I hope your neighbors work things out. On the plus side, you’re lucky you don’t hear them the rest of the time.

Both of your replies precisely shows the reality of Israel! I thought maybe some people thought of the UFO because many headlines said so, and if I understood right my co-workers were also saying that some people thought it was a UFO. But you guys are right, most Israelis probably thought it was a missile attack!
