17 May 2012 (Cherries)

May 17, 2012

These cherries were bought for me by my boss’s mom, who after hearing my boss get a phone call from her husband that works at the kibbutz factory telling her that some guy is selling a bunch of cherries there, went to go check it out. My boss remembered that our other co-worker who only works in the mornings also likes cherries and gave her a call to let her know, and she got herself a pack. After seeing everyone buying them, my boss’s brother also said what the heck and got himself a pack too. In Japan cherries are somewhat of a novelty, and it seems that they are in Israel as well.

By the way these cherries were being sold along with olives, olive oil, etc, by a Druze guy, and I can’t imagine that he called up the factory beforehand and got permission to come and open up his little food stand there. I don’t know what is more unbelievable (in my silly Japanese standards), the guy who just showed up or the factory that welcomed him with open arms. Only in Israel?

The cherries are not too sweet, not too sour, just right. The guy is supposedly coming every Tuesday from now on, so I’m thinking about trying his olive oil next time.

Much love,
Kaori
