1 May 2012 (Time for a book)

My new stack of books | 新しく買った本

Rain has been predicted for the last two days or so, but the clouds have not released any drops upon us yet. But wind storms, which usually comes right before rain, have come and gone resulting in air so stifled and dusty I’m having trouble seeing anything in the distance again. We need this rain badly.

On a night like this I have all my windows closed and am getting ready to cozy up with a good book. I’ve been meaning to hit the stack of books I bought on sale (although still pretty expensive compared to prices in Japan) during my last trip to Tel Aviv. I think my heart is leaning towards “Bethlehem Road Murder” by Batya Gur, which lit up the face of the girl working the register who said, “Oh, this is a favorite of mine.”

Here’s an excerpt from the back of the book:
But much more is concealed beneath the surface of this gruesome homicide – as tensions between Ashkenazim and Mizrahim, hostility between Arabs and Jews, the half-century-old business of kidnapped Yemenite children, and the al Aqsa Intifada of 2000 add fuel to a terrible fire that might never be contained.

Sounds intense and intriguing at the same time, kind of like daily life in Israel!

P.S. Is anyone else a Judy Blume, and more specifically, a Fudge fan? I didn’t know the author published another Fudge book fairly recently in 2002. I must admit I started reading this the moment I got back home and didn’t put it down until I finished it. Fudge and Peter made me laugh out loud once again!

「Bethlehem Road Murder」(ベスレヘム通り殺人事件)。

かなり強烈そうだけど興味深い、、、 まるでイスラエルの日常生活みたい 笑

Much love,
