84 (The joy of eating |

January 19, 2011

As a kind of follow-up to my previous post, I thought I’d share some of the food I’ve been fortunate to eat or witness in the past few months.

An Arab sweets vendor in Akko |

This is an Arab sweets vendor in Akko. Most of the Arab sweets I’ve eaten so far have been super sugary, devilish delights. The kind you can feel its weight on your hand and the sugar and/or butter is seeping through the bottom. Notice the speakers in the back? An exotic, Arabic dance song was blasting from them.

Chocolate fondue in Rosh Pina |

The fondue |

The extras |

Doesn’t this look absolutely wicked? We made sure there was not a single drop of chocolate left.

Labane at a Druze restaurant |

And hummus, of course |

These are some of the dishes we had at a Druze restaurant up north, near the Lebanese border. This was the first restaurant I’ve been to in Israel where we actually had to wait for a table, then had to wait just about the equal amount of time before we were able to flag down a waiter. It was worth the wait, and more than anything, their falafels were the best I’ve ever eaten. And I’ve eaten a lot of falafels, the first approximately 14 years ago.

Now, being Japanese it can’t be helped that my standards for sushi are very high. I don’t expect for these standards to be met anywhere else but Japan. Still, after a long time away, a taste of home is heavenly.

Much love,
